CWWC paddle trips

A few ideas to ponder on, let me know who is keen for what and I will see what I can do according to the response we get. I’m quite keen to do all of them:

WITTE RIVER: This is a must do trip for any kayaker that is confident in catching eddies,has a good roll and keen to step their paddling up a level. I am quite keen to do 2 learn the Witte paddles this season. 1 fairly soon for those keen to get on the Witte and then another towards the end of the season where we do an over nighter at the Bains Kloof Corner Lodge which will be a wrap up to the Cape winter season.

OVERNIGHT PALMIET:A new idea that has come to my mind as there are quite a few guys I know that are keen to get out there, pack our boats and do an over night trip. Looking at doing the full day stretch starting on a Saturday afternoon, over night on the river bank about half way down and finishing off on the Sunday lunchtime.

DORING TRIP: This one has been spoken about many times but is a difficult one to pull off as will be the whole weekend away and very water dependent if we want a good level for kayaking but worth it all when it comes together. This will be a trip leaving Fri afternoon, spending Fri night at a base camp, Sat on river, Sat night camping on river bank and take out on Sun lunch time.

Club Gathering – Palmiet Paddle 19 June 2010

WHEN: Sat 19 June 2010 – 9:30am

WHERE: Meeting at Kogelberg Biosphere office at the Palmiet River.

BRING: Your Paddling gear ( warm stuff ), Wild card or $$$ for day permit, meat and a wetty for after. CWWC will supply a bit of both but maybe not enough for everyones needs!

WHY: This is a chance for the club to paddle together on the Palmiet River in a fun relaxed environment. Be in safe hands, try new lines, get out and run rapids again and take photos etc.

WHO: ANYONE welcome who is interested in Paddling the Palmiet and/or becoming a member of the Cape White Water Club. Spread the word, lets see how many paddlers we can get out on one day!

There is the option of braaing at the Fairy Glenn Picnic spot as we did last year OR Stuart has offered his house in Somerset West as a Venue for a braai after. ( bit more sensible for those driving back to CT ) lets discuss this on the Cape White Water Club forum, here, for those keen on braaing.

Witte River Paddlers

Witte River Paddlers…

Anyone paddling at the Witte putting in at Bainskloof ( Eerste Tol ) Please we have been asked NOT to climb over or throught the barbed wire fence. Hussan, the owner of the Bainskloof Corner Lodge has put that there to stop people going through his property and down to the river during the summer months where they swim in and pollute the water where he pumps up to the lodge.
He is very kayaker friendly and doesnt mind us at all. If he is there he usually comes out and shows you the way, if he is not there then there is a black gate on the right hand side of the lodge, we are allowed to use that as an entry point, there is usually a padlock on the gate but if you look closely it is normally open. Please use this entrance and if time allows, support him by having a drink in the bar afterwards.

For those interested he has accomadation there starting from a bout R150 per person, a fully stocked bar and good meals in the kitchen… as some of us found out this past Friday night.

Reasons to sign up for the 2010 season:

To be part of the only White Water paddling club in the South Africa

Be invited to the annual CWWC learn the Palmiet and learn the Witte river days where you get to paddle with the whole club and get free instruction on the particular river.
You will have access to our very own river monitoring system. ( We are going to get the Palmiet river set up first this year and hopefully get them installed at the Moolenaars and Witte by winter 2011)
